Sandy was looking for a unique solution to having a dirty clothes or laundry bin in her bedroom. She wanted something that looked like a piece of furniture, not a laundry hamper. And something that was elevated above what was available online. She always wanted a shaker-style cabinet, but did not want the reddish hues of cherry. We decided on riftsawn white oak for the carcass and quartersawn white oak for the lid. The lid uses special hardware to keep it from slamming down on her during loading and unloading (it stays where it’s put until the lid is shut). The cabinet was built based on the exact height needed to fit in with the other furniture in the room. A vented bottom allows clothes to breath until removed for washing.
